HISTORY OF SIGN: Mr. Norm's Grand-Spaulding began in 1948 when Norm Kraus and his brother Len started selling used cars at their dad's gas station at the corner of Grand and Spaulding in Chicago. By 1956 the brothers were focusing on stick shift and performance cars. Due to space limitation in a newspaper ad, the name "Mr. Norm" first appeared, and it stuck. In the fall of 1962, Grand Spaulding Dodge opened, a new car dealership focusing on performance cars. In 1963 Mr. Norm's Sport Club was established and the dealership began selling "Mr. Norm's" racing apparel. In 1964, Mr. Norm formed the first Grand Spaulding Dodge racing team, and for the next seven years, sales of new Dodges doubled every year. By 1974, Grand Spaulding became the largest volume Dodge dealership in the world. In 1977 Norm sold his interest in the dealership.
