HISTORY OF SIGN:
Cord introduced the mid-priced front-wheel drive L-29 in 1929 with plans to produce 5000 of the cars before introducing the L-30. By the time the last L-29 models for 1932 were produced, the Great Depression was in full force and it was obvious there would be no L-30. Cord production ended with the 1932 models, but four years later Cord revived the make with the startling modern "coffin-nosed" Cord designed by Gordon Buehrig. This is probably the most instantly recognizable car ever made and was very well received. But E.L. Cord, busy with his other enterprises, decided to get out of the car business. Almost 3000 of the 1936 and 1937 Cords were produced before production ended on August 16, 1937.
